Luggage restrictions international flights exist. Quantity of luggage limits and weight limits apply. There are luggage limits for all classes of travel. These encompass the number of bags you can take, the maximum weight on any individual piece of baggage and the total weight for checked-in luggage. Separate limits apply to carry-on baggage. These limits will vary depending on your international destination also and need checking. The information and restrictions are usually printed on your e-ticket. You can also check the airline website or call your travel agent prior to traveling for more information. You will be charged excess baggage for exceeding the limits and some airlines are extremely strict on these.

There are also restrictions on what you can and cannot put in your suitcase. These restrictions are managed by the international aviation authorities and are consistent globally. They include fuels, liquids that contain or can act as fuels (eg chlorine and detergents), flammable liquids, compressed gases (even aerosols), firearms, knives, some batteries, and many more. Familiarize yourself with these here and do not carry them. There are significant fines for even attempting to carry them. From personal experience, a mistaken item in your luggage will necessitate a conversation (at least) with the airport authorities or police.

In some airports, you are required to put your suitcases and bags through security scanning yourself. Sometimes this is prior to check-in and sometimes it is once the bags are tagged. The signage and airline staff will be able to assist you if you require help. It is always a good idea to watch more experienced travelers as they approach check-in to figure out what “the drill” is in any given country.
