Accessing Social Media in China has its challenges. Many US based social media platforms are blocked. For example Facebook, Instagram and Google are all blocked. The people you interact with in these countries will not be using US based social media sites. They will be using alternatives like WeChat, WhatsApp, Vkontake (Russia/Central Asia). You will need to do a bit a research prior to departing to know what the social media apps are most popular and get access to those. Also remember that your contacts at home will not be able to connect with you on such social media apps which may be blocked in some countries unless you have VPN (Virtual Private Network).
