Laptop and Electronic Devices

You will be able to use your laptop and electronic devises once the aircraft is leveled or 20 minutes after take off. This includes tablets, MP3 players and PDA’s. Some airlines allow the use of these devices all through the flight. However you need to make sure they are switched to “flight mode” before the aircraft takes off. The flight attendant will inform you about this in the safety briefing at the beginning of the flight. If you are traveling in business or first class there will be a power in your seat. It could be a power point style or USB. Increasingly USB ports are available in all classes. The flight attendants will ask you to disconnect the power source for take off and landing. This is only to ensure that the power on the aircraft is optimized to fly it.

You may need a power cable for a specific airline. They will sell on the aircraft but you will pay 2-3 times what it costs in a retail shop. It is best to find out what cable/adaptor you will need prior to flying so you can purchase it ahead of time. If you plan to work on the plane for longer than your battery life will allow, you should sort this out ahead of time. Click here to learn more about adaptors.
